Tamarind Rice

Ingredients:

  • 2 C White Rice (cooked)
  • 2-2.5 T Tamarind Paste
  • 6-7 Red Chillies
  • 3 tbsp Oil
  • 3 Curry leaves
  • Salt (to taste)
  • 2 pinches Asoeftida
  • 1 tsp Mustard
  • 1 tsp Urad Dal
  • 1 tsp Chana Dal
  • 3-4 T Peanuts
  • 1 tsp Turmeric

Method:

  1. Take a pan and add oil.
  2. When oil is heated, add mustard, followed by urad dal and chana dal.
  3. Add the curry leaves and roast the peanuts and cook for a few minutes.
  4. Add turmeric and tamarind paste.
  5. Add some water and allow it to boil.
  6. After it has reduced to at least half add salt.
  7. Slowly start adding the rice, stirring to mix.
  8. Garnish with cilantro.
